The Union of Concerned Scientists Provide Distorted Climate Propaganda

From the UCS report:

 

Report shows the growing health risks of heat waves and hot summer weather in the Midwest.

 

And

But

 

So they list this report under “global warming > global warming impacts” but did not examine how it links to “climate change”.

 

 

 

The Data

 

The following graphs are from NOAA https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/cag/regional/time-series

NOAA divides what the UCS refers to as the Midwest into the Upper Midwest and Ohio Valley climate regions. The graphs below show mean summer maximum temperature for the entire record (1895 – 2018).

Zero long-term trend for the Upper Midwest and a negative trend for the Ohio Valley region.

 

 

 

 

 

Not exactly what one would infer from the UCS propaganda. In fact, just the opposite.

 

The UCS is so “concerned” that they only looked at cities – which exhibit Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect, whereas the NOAA data shown above includes rural stations that are not affect by UHI.

 

UCS: Lies of omission.

 

This is why the UCS claims:

 

That is because rural stations are very important in climate studies, while the UCS based their study only on cities.
